Spiritual Guide Which Disentangles the Soul - Michael de Molinos - 1st Book - Chapter 3
The soul cannot attain to perfection and union with God by means of Meditation and Ratiocination.
However, this is not to say that Meditation and Reasoning are superfluous, but only good for beginning the spiritual way.
One acquires a habit of knowledge of the beauty of virtue and the ugliness of vice.
(St Teresa says this can be attained in 6 months. St Bonaventure says 2 months)
He cautions against continuing to constrain the way to Meditation. Many who are invited to the transition do not respond, but instead continue to study and discourse and reason.
Such exactly is the live of some just men, always seeking, and never enjoying.
Jesus chides the wise and prudent, the learned, for attempting to know God through reasoning and following the law; Jesus again argues that the path is easier for little children.
