Practical Mysticism by Evelyn Underhill - Chapter 6 Love and Will

The will, heart and mind are now poised to act.

All scattered thinking is cut of by recollection. All vagrant and unworthy desires are killed by the exercises of detachment.

Push with all your power not to absorb ideas, but to pour forth will and love.

Contemplation is more like the intense effort of vision, the passionate and self-forgetful act of communion.

Loving intuition is the only guide.

The three great tools- love thought and will.

Ruysbroeck - Contemplation is a knowing that is in no wise(sic)... therein all the workings of the reason fail.

Reason will only make mincemeat of your experience of Eternity... trying to force it into a symbolic system with which the intellect can cope.

Cloud of Unknowing - 'Look that nothing live in the working mind but a naked intent searching'.

The heart's desire is a better earnest of possible fulfillment.

"Smite upon that thick cloud of unknowing with a sharp dart of longing love".

To look with the eyes of love.

See things for their sake, not your own.
